To bookbinders all over the world!

The Estonian Association of Designer Bookbinders and the Estonian Literature Centre are excited to announce that the International Exhibition of Bookbinding Scripta mantent VI will be open from September 11 to October 3, 2020 at the ARS Art Factory Project Space, Pärnu street 154, Tallinn.

You are welcome to participate at the “Scripta manent VI” competition of bookbinding and attend the opening of the exhibition together with a seminar.

All artists who relate to a book as a binding or as an object of art through any material or technique are welcome to participate. With this exhibition we continue the tradition of international bookbinding exhibitions in Estonia.

The book that the participants of the Scripta manent VI are going to bind is a special edition by the renowned Estonian semiotician and philosopher of culture Valdur Mikita „Forestonia / Estwald / Mine metsa!” that has been printed in three languages – English, German and Estonian.

In the texts of Valdur Mikita, the ancient and the contemporary ways of life meet. The author, in his pursuit to find the origins of Estonian culture, humorously revives disappearing cultural phenomena and magical ways of perceiving life.

For the exhibition, 150 numbered sections of text have been printed on Rives Natural White 170 g/m2 paper and 150 unnumbered sections of text sheets on Munken Polar Rough 150 g/m2 paper.

The winners of the competition, selected by an international jury of experts, will be awarded with three main awards (”Golden Books”), two special awards and 10 incentive awards. All works meeting the quality standards of the competition will be exhibited at the exhibition.
